As a group we believe that reading books is one of life's great pleasures

Our choice of books has ranged across the great classics of the 19th Century through to the novels of Graham Green and the Booker short list. Gathering together to discuss our thoughts on the book(s)we have read each month is immensely enjoyable, and we have been inspired, entertained and enlightened.

We have recently been reading ‘Demon Copperhead’ by Barbara Kingsolver and had a very interesting and animated discussion at our meeting. Quoting from the blurb on the back page of the book……..”Demon’s story begins with his traumatic birth to a single mother in a single-wide trailer, looking ‘like a little blue prize-fighter’. For the life ahead of him he will need all of that fighting spirit, along with buckets of charm, a quick wit, and some unexpected talents, legal and otherwise. Suffused with truth, anger and compassion, Demon Copperhead is an epic tale of love, loss and everything in between.”

Our choice for July is ‘Table for Two’ by Amor Towles.
