May Fair

Ivor and Jenny Clifford were two of our members who volunteered at our stall at the Collingham May Fair on Monday 4th May. They talked to people about the Collingham and District u3a, gave them information sheets and explained how are the groups worked. During their session on the stall they had lots of enquiries and questions from people attending the May Fair.
Membership renewal
Our membership year runs from 1st April to 31st March. Consequently, membership fees are now due. The easiest way to renew is by bank transfer (see Membership page for details) but we do accept other methods. If you need advice please contact the Membership Secretary
New Group
This new group had its first meeting recently. To get an idea about whether it might appeal to you, read the following from the Group Leaader.
Our first meeting at the Allotment went well with 7 participants. The recommended books were ‘A Hymn to Life: Shame has to Change Sides’ by Giselle Pericot, ‘A Place of Execution’ by Val McDermid and ‘Hamnet’ by Maggie O’Farrell.
Films and TV that people had enjoyed were ‘I Swear’, ‘Hamnet’, and several series available on TV including ‘A Hospital through Time’ with Alice Roberts, ‘AI Confidential’ with Hannah Fry, ‘Captured’ and ‘Yellowstone’. Some of these are screened only on Netflix.
The conversation covered topics as diverse as living with a disability, the advantages and fears of new technology, the prevalence of sexual abuse and how disconcerting it is to find that periods of your own life now count as history.
The next meeting is 16th April, no preparation needed, just read a book, or watch a film or TV, go to the theatre.
If you would like more information you can email the group leader via the link on the The Critics page.
Gift Aid
You may be aware that, from this membership year, Collingham and District u3a will be making the option for members to participate in Gift Aid when joining or renewing. Through Gift Aid, 25% of eligible membership fees will be recoverable from HMRC at no cost to members. This money will be used within our u3a to improve our events, groups and maintain current membership fees.
A letter will shortly be issued to all members with more details of how this will work and a declaration form for those who can participate. The forms can be returned to a committee member or directly to the Treasurer or Membership Secretary if preferred.
