Learn, Laugh, Live

That's the motto of the National u3a which has over 400,000 members belonging to 1000+ independent u3as. We provide the opportunity for people who have finished with full time employment to come together and continue learning. Its philosophy is very much one of friendship by sharing knowledge and skills and being able to do so in an enjoyable environment. There is no formal teaching, there are no exams and no qualifications are required or earned. All you need is a desire to take part and enjoy!

Monthly Meetings

There is a Monthly General Meeting for everybody to attend at the Memorial Hall, Collingham, usually on the fourth Wednesday in the month at 2pm. The December meeting has entertainment and Xmas fayre. See the Events page for these dates / details as well as other activities open to all members.

If you are thinking of attending a meeting please read about the Memorial Hall. Clicking here will take you to the venue page where you can read about access and safety information.

Membership

If you wish you can come along to two 'Taster' sessions before you become a member to see whether they are for you - either once each to two different Interest Groups or to one General Meeting plus one Interest Group. Then on completing your application you will be able to join the Groups.

Annual Fees - The annual membership is £20, from 1st April until our year end of 31 March. However, for those new members joining in the period 1st October to 31st March, a reduced fee of £10 will apply until the annual renewal date.

Interest Group Fees - Each group meets in the home of a member or if more appropriate, a hired room/hall. A small contribution is collected by the Group Leader to cover the costs of any room hire, materials and refreshments. See individual groups for more information.

Interest Groups

We now have nearly 30 Interest Groups covering a wide range of subjects and activities. You can see some in the slide show. Interest Groups tend to meet once or twice a month. Most of our groups meet in venues in Collingham but some are in Winthorpe and Girton. Out and About group and Walking groups go wherever the fancy takes them. You can find out more about them by reviewing our past 12 months Newsletters and visiting the Groups page to find out when and where they meet. If you want to try a group to see if it's for you then contact the group leader from the group page.

If you are looking to keep fit and would enjoy the outdoors with new friends, Strollers organise short walks at a leisurely pace while the Walking Group's are typically 5/6 miles. Indoor activities include Kurling and Table Tennis whilst the Bowls group meets outdoors in the summer and indoors during the winter months.

To stimulate the mind the Play reading and Literature groups draw on published works for inspiration while the Thursday Talking Shop goes wherever members ideas take it. Bridge, Scrabble and Board Games are for those who want a little competition in their leisure time. Threads is the name for our craft group and the Sunday Lunchers is for those who want to share a meal and ideas with other members. The quiz group gets your brain cells working on remembering all those facts that are in there somewhere.

It's never too late to learn. Join a group where members share their knowledge. There are three language groups and three history groups. Improve your french or italian conversation skills. Share research into topics of general history, local history or family history. Art appreciation combines learning with pure enjoyment of works of art.
